Hey folks, we are in the process of changing over our forums entirely. Unfortunately everything from the old forums will be lost. So when we do throw the switch, everyone (who isn’t already a member of http://www.rvoodoo.com) will have to sign back up. We will be starting over entirely. For the time being, both forums will be operational…..so we’d appreciate anyone giving this new forum a test drive, and letting us know if they come across any issues. The theme isn’t quite finished yet….. so you’ll come across some areas with default colours, etc….but that’s no biggie, it’ll get fixed as time allows! The direct link to the new forum is http://www.rvoodoo.com/forum.
Due to the recent hacks that hit the Voodoo Empire, we are going to take the opportunity to integrate the shop directly into the Rev. Voodoo website. The products are still available online at our Zazzle shop and cafepress shops. It’s too hard to keep trying to dig out multiple software installations every time something happens, so we will try to pull of some tighter integration, and see where we end up!
Rev. Voodoo continues to work hard at recovering from the latest hacks. The front end of all the websites look and feel fine once again. This website, along with Ankhjii’s Fitness Site, AngelaandJamie.com, and The Voodoo Empire main page are fully recovered. That still leaves the wedding services site, DJ Odawa’s page, the forums, and the wiki.
With these problems, and especially with the restoration we continually have to go through, we are considering paring down our sites once again. Mainly, the forums. It looks like sometime over the next few months, there will be a major new release of Wordpress 3.0. Perhaps after that happens, we may try to merge in a WP based forum, instead of the SMF forum we use now. The more consolidated things are, the easier it will be to recover.
Until then though, you can continue to count on us fighting the good fight to keep things running here, and all around the empire!
For a little while things were pretty shakey. We’d lost access to Angela and Jamie’s wedding site, along with the upload site. Not to mention we had no access to our hosting at all. Things are pretty much recovered. All sites are restored, as is hosting access. We’ve even managed to sneak in a little upgrade! The blog page over on the Voodoo Empire main page is no longer a barebones rss import through an xslt fragment…. it’s a full & complete import from this blog. That pretty much doesn’t mean too much to you, the user, except that we can keep that page more stylized and pretty! Plus you can see photos and listen to music directly from the blog page without having to come here first! Yay, less clicks! The only thing left to do now is wait to see if the Spam attack comes back before we declare total victory!
Well, we continue to be the subject of Footer Spam Link attacks. Rev. Voodoo has thoroughly cleaned all Voodoo Empire sites, and made sure that all proactive measures were followed. So the attack must be coming from somewhere else on the host machine. That’s the downfall of shared hosting I guess. As of now, Rev. Voodoo can’t even log on to his host, so it’s hard to tell what damage is being done. Hopefully we won’t lose too much……
Over the past couple years, Rev. Voodoo has experimented with many different software packages for building websites. And those website services have been left online and available for anyone to use. Keeping an eye on traffic level and activity it is apparent that some of these sites are just not used. Sites like the Voodoo Community, Club Voodoo, VoodooSpace, and the VoodooPic site haven’t really been maintained in some time, and they really don’t match up with, provide use for, or present The Voodoo Empire very well. So over the next little while these little side-project websites will be deleted. This will leave the core Voodoo Empire sites for people to enjoy. Besides why have anything up that’s substandard?
These following sites are the ones we will keep online for The Voodoo Empire as they are continuously monitored and improved:
If anyone actually likes any of the other sires, let us know before we delete them!
Well, here’s tha backstory. A couple years ago Rev. Voodoo was searching the google machine to see what all Rev. Voodoo and Voodoo Empire sites had been indexed. And he came across http://reverendvoodoo.com. However, this site wasn’t part of The Voodoo Empire, it belonged to some other guy. So we checked it out, and checked out where it was hosted and then put down a backorder fee on the domain name. Then, totally forgot about that. And after a couple of years, whoever owned that site didn’t renew it on time, and it was automatically transferred to The Voodoo Empire! Cool! It is currently set to forward to The Voodoo Empire main page, until we decide if it needs it’s own page, or if forwarding is enough.
Luckily Rev. Voodoo frequently checks on the status of all Voodoo Empire websites. This attack was caught just after it happened, and before any damage was done, such as being delisted from Google. All is currently well….but I am confused. According to several posts around the Wordpress community, including this one, as long as I keep The Voodoo Empire up to date with the latest Wordpress releases, all should be well in the security world. But that just ain’t the case. I always upgrade this site on the day a new version is released. But we still got hit…. Oh well…Rev. Voodoo will maintain vigilence in protecting the site, andhopefully you all will continue to enjoy our offerings!
Rev. Voodoo has been quite busy, and has had a job change at work. So no longer can he sit at work and write code all day. However, in between projects there has been time to do a quick facelift of the online shop. It’s by no means complete, but it is complete enough to make the shop fall in line with the other sites. The Entire Empire now has the same look and feel, along with fairly good navigation between sites, something that was lacking before! Take a look around, maybe just check the shop, but we recommend you start at the Empire homepage, and tour all the sites! Enjoy, and thanks for looking!
