Rev. Voodoo

Well, we’ve tried to upgrade The Voodoo Forums several times over the past coulpe of weeks and failed miserably!  So finally Rev. Voodoo had to dig deep to get it done.  It was kind of scary as we had to backup the database, delete everything, install the forums like a brand-new website, then bring in all the old stuff.  But we’ve got it done…..pretty much.  Everything will look pretty good for people reading the site.  If you go to make a post, it will work just fine….it just won’t look quite right.  The forum software uses a new theme type, so our old theme doesn’t quite match up.  We’ll get that fixed very soon, but until then enjoy the forums!

For a little while things were pretty shakey.  We’d lost access to Angela and Jamie’s wedding site, along with the upload site.  Not to mention we had no access to our hosting at all.  Things are pretty much recovered.  All sites are restored, as is hosting access.  We’ve even managed to sneak in a little upgrade!  The blog page over on the Voodoo Empire main page is no longer a barebones rss import through an xslt fragment…. it’s a full & complete import from this blog.  That pretty much doesn’t mean too much to you, the user, except that we can keep that page more stylized and pretty!  Plus you can see photos and listen to music directly from the blog page without having to come here first! Yay, less clicks!  The only thing left to do now is wait to see if the Spam attack comes back before we declare total victory!

It’s the latest update in the overall overhaul of the Voodoo Empire’s online presence!  This time the Voodoo Forums have been done up!  The theme fits real nice with the look that is now present on the Voodoo Empire main site, the filesharing site, and the Blog!  All that’s left is an overhaul of the shop, and some minor details on the wiki!  Check em all out for yourself!

After launching the new Voodoo Empire homepage, and adding a filesharing service skinned to match, Rev. Voodoo thought it might be cool to build up a new theme for his blog.  That is what you are looking at now!  It still needs some tweaks here and there, but it’s near complete!  It fits in real well with the overall Empire feel.  Now that this site is upgraded, the previous theme will be released to the public very shortly!

As we continue to upgrade and grow, we get more and more traffic.  We recently overshot our monthly bandwidth allotment by a long shot.  So a few upgrades were made to allow for the new traffic load, and then recently all Voodoo Empire sites were relocated to a new server.  The move was made painlessly and went off without a hitch.  Hang around a while and watch us grow, let’s see how good this new server is!

Well it looks like the newest version (2.6) of Wordpress has been released.  It’s time to upgrade all of The Voodoo Empire sites.  This site has already been upgraded and the only problem so far is that Rev. Voodoo can’t post anything wih the plugins active.  So it’s time to go through the plugins and see where the problem lies.  After that, the rest of the sites will be upgraded.

For those of you following along at home, the problem has been tracked down.  Unfortunately it is a major problem for The Voodoo Empire.  The conflict lies in the PodPress plugin, which is the plugin that controls all the music on this site.  None of the other Voodoo Empire sites will be upgraded until a solution has been found.

Well, in the interest of keeping the Rev. occupied, and also to keep things here fresh www.RVoodoo.com may be getting a facelift.  So if you log on in the next little bit and notice things look a little off, please be patient.  Since the Rev. is a coding hack, it may take a little while to get everything just right.  But no matter what the functionality will be there.  So continue to enjoy the site with no fear as the change takes place!

Well it’s been rather easy going this time.  The Voodoo Empire has just completed another upgrade of Wordpress on all 3 sites.  Rev. Voodoo is happy to report that using the Automatic Upgrade Plugin (which hiccuped quite a few times, but never broke), the upgrade to 2.5.1 went off nice and smooth.  This was supposed to fix quite a few problems with the site, and since we have been experiencing several of the listed problems, this is happy news!  Now it’s time to scour the net for our next Mix of the Moment.  Happy listening!

It’s getting to be that time again. I know we just recently upgraded Wordpress here at www.RVoodoo.com, but another upgrade has just been officially released. After reading the documentation and checking out what others had to say, it looks like a good one with many valuable tools. So here we go again, upgrade time. Keep your fingers crossed and hope this goes as smoothly as the last one!

And again, we have success.  This one was a little more difficult but I think that was due to my work computers.  All is well in the Voodoo Empire once again!

Well, Wordpress has been dropping nagging reminders on www.RVoodoo.com for a couple of weeks now, telling the Reverend that it’s time for a site upgrade.  This frankly scares the Reverend to no end.  But the time has come as the "Out of Date" blurbs drive us at the Voodoo Empire nuts!  So sit back and cross your fingers faithful fans….here we go. 

And now to update readers. Well, actually you should probably not need one. As you can see www.RVoodoo.com is online, and therefore the update is complete. No problems were had, went smooth like peanut butter!
