The Voodoo Empire

Archive for April, 2009

Sure it may be fun to read what is going on in the Voodoo Empire. Rev. Voodoo tries to keep this site flush with interesting info, music and pics. But have you ever thought it might be fun to submit your own stuff here? Now’s your chance! As an experiment, the Voodoo Empire is going to open up the website to people who want to contribute. Now you can add your own stories, pictures, music, etc. Just contact Rev. Voodoo or comment to this post and your account will be upgraded. If you need some help learnin how to post here, we can do that too!

It’s been a while since an update to the VoodooEmpire2 theme was released for Wordpress.  But all of the updates have been packaged together and are here for your download.  The changes are pretty cool.  First, some of the code was simply cleaned up, I’m learnin to code slowly and was able to clean up some redundant and/or useless code.  The alignment in the sidebars is a little cleaner.  The greeting message was moved from inside the banner to overlaying the top of both sidebars, and instead of the user having to edit the theme themselves, they can simply click on Theme Options in the admin menu to change to a custom greeting.  Finally instead of the simple text footer we had, there is now a 3 column widget area in the footer.  All these options are active on this site so check it out, download, and enjoy.  As always, if you have any ideas or questions, let me know.  I’m always willing to learn, and to try to help.

Download the theme by right-clicking here or from the Wordpress theme repository here.

I just wanted to repost for local folks one last time that all my DJ gear is for sale along with my vinyl.  I haven’t sat down to count the vinyl or get the titles yet, but you are welcmoe to come by and check it out.  Here is the link to the original post with a detailed description.  But a quick breakdown follows:

  • 2 Pioneer 1210m3d turntables that need a bit of work, plus one well used Pioneer DJM600 mixer that works fine but is missing some knobs/faders, plus the transport case with handles and wheels, and 2 functioning Ortofon DJ blue styli that could stand to have new tips.  Asking price is $600.  I have a couple of interested people but I wanted to make sure everyone has seen this
  • 1 Vestax VCI-100, used once, in perfect condition.  This is a sweet USB controller that works perfetly with the Traktor Software included or I’ll give you my copy of Traktor DJ Studio 3 pro.  Asking price is $300.  These go for $400 used on ebay.
  • 2 bags of vinyl, 1 DnB bag, 1 House bag.  With the bags included.  I’m trying to sell each as a lot before I start selling vinyl individually.

All prices are quite negotiable, I need to offload this stuff soon.  If it’s not gone this week, I’m turning to craigslist and ebay.  I hope somebody finds a good home for my stuff!  Next on the chopping block will be lighting.  Probably my scanning intelligent laser and a DXM controller as a package.  I’ll officially post that soon for around $300 I think.  If you are interested before I post, call, email, or text.

header8.jpg This week’s Mix of the Moment is a house selection from Miss Nine.  It’s a mix from Pacha in Ibiza on April 19th, 2009 that was broadcast on Radio FG.  Enjoy this mix nice and loud.

Local Selection-Rev. Voodoo

200x200-blk-red-logo.jpg Well here’s another mix from Rev. Voodoo.  They keep getting better, but perfection is still a long ways off.  The main problem is that mixing at work using only laptop speakers is nearly impossible.  With all bass being nonexistent the beat is quite hard to match.  So the first few mixes on here are pretty rough.  But if you tough it out or just skip ahead a few tracks, say 20 minutes, the mixing tightens up quite well and all in all it’s pretty enjoyable to listen to.  Give it a try and see what you think.

Well, it looks like I’m going to be in serious need of some cash soon.  I’ll be selling off a lot of my possessions.  The first sacrifice I’m going to make is my DJ gear.

The first thing I’m looking to offload is the Vestax VCI100, google it, it rocks.  I got it brand new, and it’s used once.  I believe its a refurb unit.  It goes for $400 on ebay.  Its in the original box with all documentation and an unopened disc that includes Traktor 3 le.  (We can easily include a copy of Traktor DJ Studio 3 Full Edition if need be).  I’m trying to get $300 for this item.  You won’t find a price close to that anywhere.

Next up for sale is my full DJ rig.  2 Technics 1210 m3d turntables, and a Pioneer DJM 600 mixer, along with the case that they are in.  I’m trying to sell all these together.  I may eventually sell separate if needed.

The 1210 m3d tables are the black ones.  They are the euro versions so they have the euro plug (that’s why I included the pic of the 2 prong plug above.  I’ve got the adapters on the tables so they can be used on standard American outlets.  The motors on the turntables are going very strong and Ive never had a problem with them.  Here’s the problems with the turntables.  One of them has a dented on/off switch.  The switch works just fione, its just more difficult to use.  One of the tonearms will need replaced, it is bent.  The other tonearm could use a replacement, it just has a loose connection to the cartridge (needle).  It will usually work fine with some fanagling if you don’t want to change it.  It will cost you about $100 or so per tonearm to replace.  The parts are cheap, maybe $40 or so.  It’s the labour that shops charge, so if you are handy you can do this yourself.

The mixer is well used.  It’s missing some knobs and fader tabs.  All the functions work just fine.  You can buy a knob pack online to replace these quite cheap.  Or pull em off an old mixer like I’ve done in the past.  All the functions can be used using the posts the knobs sit on, so its up to you if they actually need replaced.  Many people have done many shows on this mixer as is.  This mixer is and has been reliable for years, but it does have the miles on it.

And finally the case.  It’s just a standard large DJ case that holds both tables along with the mixer.  It has a pocket on the end for headphones and cartridge case, or to stack records while playing..  Its in good shape and will last forever.  It has handles on both ends for carrying, and wheels on one end to rol it around.  The full rig is quite heavy, so the wheels come in handy.

I will also include my cartridges.  They are a pair of ortofon DJ s cartridges.  They both work fine, but the tips are pretty high mile and could probably stand to be replaced.

I’ve looked around online, and full DJ rigs are still going for 750-900 bucks with lesser mixers, older model techs, and no case.  But considering the fact that this gear needs some work, I’ll start my asking price at $600 (with delivery in the local area!).

Finally, I will be selling off my vinyl collection.  I’ve got a bagfull of Drum and Bass, and a Bag of Tech House and related vinyl.  Contact me for more info, I’ll get a full count of my vinyl available.  I’d like to sell the records as a lot, or split by genre.  I’ll consider breaking up the vinyl if I don’t have any takers.  Price is very negotiable.  Each genre comes with its own bag, how convenient.

Like I stated in the description, this equipment nees some TLC.  Its not ready to use, you’ll need at least one tonearm replacement to get started.

All prices listed here are open to negotiation!  I’ll sell to best offer.  If you need this equipment shipped, you will have to pay for shipping.

I hope someone can find a use for my gear.  I’ll miss it.

Club Voodoo has gone Live

Posted by Rev. Voodoo under Empire News

The Voodoo Empire’s newest website, Club Voodoo has just gone live.  All the testing is done and it’s ready for people to play around.  This site offers a lot of fun features.  We’ve got a shoutbox for droppin public message, IM and video chat between people, music and video upload, custom profiles with profile songs and the ability to make profile videos if you have a webcam.  There’s a whiteboard area where multiple people can draw collaborative pictures together, an events area, a classifieds area, and other cool features.  The functionality is complete so anything that gets added will remain up there.  Changes need to be made to the appearance to make the site feel more like a Voodoo Empire product.  Also, the site focuses a bit much on dating services, and this will be deemphasized soon to make it more of a simple social site.  Maybe somebody can enjoy this fun website!  You don’t even have to sign up to use a lot of the features, but it sure would be cool if you did.  The sign in form asks for a bit of information, go ahead and lie, we don’t care about your info…that’s just the sofware defaults.
